Haiti Child Sponsorship Programme

The Jacmel Haiti Child Sponsorship Programme has now been running long enough to analyze the effects it is having on the community of Jacmel and to evaluate the programme and make any necessary changes that may be required to improve on the foundations laid down by Pastor Lafleur from Restoration Ministries Antigua.

The Make Jesus Smile program has been instrumental in building on the foundations already established to extend the child sponsorship program.

United Caribbean Trust, working in association with Restoration Ministries Haiti, met with Pastor Lafleur in Antigua in May 2007 and identified the four schools that will be, God willing, entering into the Haiti School Adoption Programme.

During that meeting various excellent changes were implemented into the Haiti Child Sponsorship Programme.

The founder of UCT, Jenny Tryhane and UCT Early Childhood Co-Ordinator, Paulette Scantlebury, travelled to Haiti mid May to deliver and distribute the Make Jesus Smile shoe boxes.

UCT Early Childhood Co-Ordinator, Paulette Scantlebury We will take this opportunity to extend the data base of children to be included in the Haiti Child Sponsorship Programme and to meet with Principles of the four schools in Jacmel seeking to enter the Haiti School Adoption Programme.


What will your US $30 per month achieve?

The money will be divided into 3 modules

  1. The first 1/3 of the fees will go to the school to cover school fees, uniform, books and pencils etc.
  2. The next 1/3 will be invested into a Family Empowement Programme enabling the family to purchase livestocks such as goats, black belly sheep, chickens, pigs or cows. This will not only assist with feeding the family but educate the children in self sufficiency.
  3. The last 1/3 will be invested in the development of the After School Club which is being established at the local Restoration Ministries Haiti church.This will include an afternoon feeding programme and a child educational, character building evangelical teaching programme.

For the Haiti child in this programme they will:
  • Experience the wonderful feeling of being loved by a Christian friend that he or she has not met, but who cares enough to be a sponsor.
  • The opportunity to attend school and wear a school uniform with shoes. Only 15% of the children in rural Haiti attend school, and fewer than 25% of adult Haitians are literate.
  • The possibilty of establishing a small family run livestock business bringing in fresh food and much needed finance to feed the rest of the family.
  • A hot meal at the end of a school day provided by the Restoration Ministry Haiti feeding programme at the After School Club.
  • The opportunities to learn about important life skills and build character
  • Most important of all, sponsoring a child will allow your child to hear about Jesus and be encouraged to develop a lifelong relationship with God.

During the June 2007 mission trip Restoration Ministries Haiti took part in outdoor crusades and the Gospel was taken to the streets.

The Holy Spirit moved as the praises went up and numerous young people gave their lives to Jesus.

A new program has been established to help follow up these Children for Christ.
