Team Ministry to Haiti - Upon arrival
AT THE AIRPORT:
On Your Way:
Your tourist entry papers will be issued to you by the airline.
When filling out the form, the reason for your visit is missions
or personal.
Immigration:
Give your entry papers to immigration. They will ask how long you
will stay, stamp it and return a copy to you. KEEP THIS SLIP during
your whole trip. You must give it back to immigration when you leave
Haiti.
Baggage Area & Customs:
Pick up a luggage cart for $2.00 US. There will be men (portieres)
wanting to help you find and carry your bags. Choose one person
only and after you leave the airport pay him $5-$10 US for their
help. We suggest for the ease of the team to ALL WEAR TEAM T-SHIRTS
on your flight to help aid you through customs. They are less likely
to search your bags, if they see you are all together. If they do
ask you to search your bags, explain that the supplies are going
to a mission.
Outside the Airport:
Make sure you don’t let anyone touch your
bags or try to carry them, unless you are prepared to pay them.
Someone from Restoration Ministries will be there to pick you up
at the airport, along with our own attendants to help load the vehicle.
It is good to have a few extra dollar bills to tip any attendants
that do help you with your bags.
SECURITY:
Take normal precautions against theft; lock car
doors, room doors when possible, keep track of purses, wallets,
& other valuables like cameras, Walkman tape players etc. Do
not carry money openly.
Always stay with the team or groups of two or three. Don’t
go out alone. Advise the leader about extra curricular activity
that you would like to do or participate in.
FOOD:
• Drink only bottled, filtered, or boiled
water from the well or bottled drinks.
• Avoid lettuce unless specifically told it has been chemically
washed.
• Don’t eat from little stands on the street.
• Meals in stores or restaurants usually cost between $8-$12.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Do not attempt to find a mate on your trip. You
are coming for ministry, not to date. Girls and guys should not
be alone together at any time. If you do happen to “like”
someone, keep it to yourself and don’t try to pursue anything
on the trip. Please keep all conduct respectable and Christ-like
and keep your focus on ministry.
