Suriname

Welcome to Suriname with its bussling capital full of Dutch colonial architecture its wild interior riddled with waterfalls, rivers and wildlife. Its wonderful ethnic diversity makes for excellent spicy cuisine and friendly, open-minded people.

A world away from the world of the Maroons - the forgotten people of Suriname.

Suriname has an extensive educational system with free schooling compulsory until age 12.

However the 2000 Suriname Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey estimated the literacy rate of the interior population at around 51%. www.paho.org

There are many children that go to school hungry, with no shoes or exercise books.

As the children received their shoebox gift, packed by the children of Barbados, they were photographed and documented and web pages created to establish the Child Sponsorship Program.

Your financial help of US $30 per month is greatly needed.

What will your contribution achieve?

The money will be divided into 3 modules

Suriname Bush Negroe children The first 1/3rd of the fees will go towards Education helping to feed the children before they go to school and help with school uniforms, shoes, books and pencils etc.
The next 1/3rd will be invested into a Family Empowerment Program enabling the family to purchase 10 chickens per month.
Chickens
After School Kinder Club.

The last 1/3rd will go towards funding the After School Kinder Club.

This will include an feeding programme and a child educational, character building evangelical teaching programme
