TEEN CHALLENGE - chickens

Barbados Teen Challenge drug and alcohol addtiction rehabilitation unit's chicken farm project

We presently raise 1750 chickens on our farm every 6 weeks.
1500 chicken we raise under a contact for a supplier in Barbados, while the other 250 are Teen Challenge’s private stock for sale and supplementing our menus on a daily basis.

The chicken farm is overseen by a manager who has 2 to 3 farm workers with him.
In cases of important decision-making, we consult with a major chicken producer in the island for direction and guidance.
There are daily guidelines and tasks set out for each farm member.

These guidelines are strictly followed by each team member to produce the best result for the Teen Challenge chicken farm and our fund-raising initiatives.
In addition, each student learns about chicken rearing and production.

EGG FARMING

The Teen Challenge farm currently produces approximately 100 eggs per day, with the objective target of 120-130 eggs per day – 3200- 3400 eggs per month.

These eggs are sold to neighbors, individuals, churches and some business houses.

The farm also produces eggs for the kitchen.

We are expanding the egg farming operation by 200% through a grant donated to us by the members of “The Home-style Cookbook” project.

This expansion will be taking place in March 2005 at which time we want to produce approximately 60 trays of eggs in 3 to 4 months time.

Support the Teen Challenge farm by purchasing your produce from us and contribute to saving lives.
