Sexual Exploitation of Children

The World Congress against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC), held in Stockholm in 1996, defined the commercial sexual exploitation of children as: ‘sexual abuse by the adult and remuneration in cash or kind to the child or a third person or persons. The child is treated as a sexual object and as a commercial object.’

This includes:

1. The prostitution of children
2. Child Pornography
3. Child Sex Tourism
4. Other forms of transactional sex where a child engages in sexual activities in order to have basic life needs met (i.e. food, clothing, shelter, education).
It is deplorable to think that children are being exploited in these ways, but even as you are reading this article, children are being enslaved.

In 2005, the ILO, (a global alliance against forced labor) reported that over $32 billion were generated by human trafficking. 50% of this total was made in industrialized nations. This number has increased tremendously in the last 6 years due to the internet pornographic industry and the increase of sexual addiction.

UNICEF reported that $12 billion per year is generated by the global child sex trade alone and they estimate well over 1.2 million child victims.

The US State Department has reported that the trafficking of children is one of the fastest growing crimes in the world and it is the world’s second largest criminal trade, after the drug trade.

Thailand, Cambodia, India, Brazil and Mexico are known “epicenters” for child sex tourism but you can find it anywhere. In the USA there are sexual auctions on the internet where children are auctioned to pedophiles.

Let’s stop this trade! Let’s ensure that every child is safe in the arms of Jesus. We know that righteousness is one of the most powerful forces in the universe and it can swallow up wickedness. This is not too big for Jesus. Let’s be tenacious regarding this justice issue! Don’t be overwhelmed. God is with you in this and He will empower YOU to make a difference!
