Suriname cuisine consists of a variety of different vegetables which grow in its tropical climate mixed with the traditional cuisine of the different ethnic groups. Since several rivers run from the Amazonian jungle to the Atlantic Ocean, fish is an important source of food. These can be from a salt water, brackish water, swamp, or river environment.
