Suriname -girls over eleven child sponsorship programme

Suriname's system of education is modeled on that of The Netherlands, and Dutch is the language of instruction. School attendance is compulsory for children up to age 12, and education at all levels is free.

More than 90 percent of the children in the coastal areas attend primary school.

The 2000 Suriname Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey estimated the overall literacy rate of the population sampled aged 15 years and older to be 86 %, with a significant difference in the literacy rate of the interior population estimated at 51%, urban 92.9 % and rural 87.0 %. www.paho.org It is with this interior people group that we are focusing our child sponsorship programme.

United Caribbean Trust in association with Antiochie Paranam is pleased to announce the launch of our new Suriname Child Sponsorship Programme. Utilizing the Make Jesus Smile shoe boxes as the conduit to introduce this programme.

Your financial help of US $30 per month is greatly needed.

What will your contribution achieve?

The money will be divided into 3 modules

The first 1/3rd of the fees will go towards Education helping to feed the children before they go to school and help with school uniforms, shoes, books and pencils etc.

The next 1/3rd will be invested into a Family Empowerment Program enabling the family to purchase 10 chickens per month.

The last 1/3rd will go towards funding the After School Kinder Club. This will include an feeding programme and a child music educational, character building and evangelical teaching programme.
