REVIEW:

Last time we met we learnt about creation (Optional use last sessions visual aids ) and how God created man and women and they lived a beautiful life in the wonderful garden of Eden.

But what went wrong? I'm sure that you probably know that the surest way to get someone to do something is to tell them they can't do it. It has been that way since the beginning of time. In fact, that is what our Bible lesson is about today.

DRAMA:

In the beginning, after God had created everything, He placed Adam and Eve ( A little boy and girl ) in the Garden of Eden ( Palm leaves ) to take care of it. He said to them, " You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will surely die."

The serpent was very clever, more clever than any of the animals that God had made. He slithered up to Eve one day and said to her, ( little boy allocated to be serpent ) " I understand that God told you that you could eat from any tree in the garden. Is that true?"

"No, not all of the trees," Eve replied. " We can eat from all of the trees except the one in the middle of the garden. (Tree branch in the corner) God told us that if we ate from that tree, we would die."

The serpent said to Eve, " You won't die! God knows that the very moment you eat from that tree you will be just like God. You will know everything - even what is good and what is evil."

You know what Eve did, don't you? That's right! She ate some of the fruit ( Eve takes a bite of the apple ) from the tree that God had told them not to touch. She thought it was good, so she gave some to Adam and he ate it too. At that very moment, their eyes were opened and they realized that they were naked and they were ashamed. So they sewed some fig leaves together to cover themselves.

TEACHING:

So, that is the story of how Adam and Ever were tricked by a sneaky snake. I'm sure you know the rest of the story.

Adapted from Bible for Children.

God banished them from the garden and they suffered for their disobedience for the rest of their lives. You and I face temptation every day, but God wants what is best for us. He will help us to resist that temptation if we will read the Bible and do what it tells us to do.

One day God looked down on the world that he had created and he saw how mean and evil the people had become.

It broke his heart to see the way people were acting. "I'm sorry I made them," God said , "I'll get rid of them all."

But God saw that Noah was different. God saw that Noah was a good man, so he decided that he would spare Noah and his family. God told Noah about his plan to send a great flood to destroy everything on the earth. He told Noah to build a big boat called an ark. God told Noah exactly how to build it. (Optional get a child to read Genesis 6:15-16) Then he told Noah after he had built the ark to fill it with animals -- two of every kind. Noah obeyed God.

He built the boat and then he put two of every kind of animal into it. Then Noah and his family entered the ark and God shut the door.

Soon the rain began to fall. The raindrops made little puddles, then bigger puddles. The big puddles became streams and rivers, then mighty seas. Soon the whole earth was covered with water. The ark tossed up and down on the waves, but Noah, his family and all the animals were safe and dry inside the ark.

It rained for forty days and nights until finally, the rain stopped. It took many days for the flood waters to go down. When it finally did, Noah, his family, and all of the animals left the ark and Noah thanked God.

FUN ACTIVITY: ANIMAL MASKS:

Let children draw animal faces on the paper plates and cut out eyes or use the colouring pages provided from Session #1 and #2 and make themselves an "animal plate" to wear as a mask. Two animals each going into the arc ( a male and a female ) Children can have fun making animal sounds as they enter the arc two by two.

God had a plan for Noah's life. Because he was faithful and obeyed God, Noah and his entire family were saved. God has a plan for your life too. God has told us about his plan for us in the Bible. Listen to what he said, "I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." If we obey God's Word, his plan for our life will be successful too. God keeps His promises.

He always keeps his promises. After the flood waters went down, God made a promise to Noah. He promised Noah that He would never again destroy the whole earth with a flood. Then He put a rainbow in the sky and said to Noah, "I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the promise between Me and all life on the earth." God said the rainbow would remind us of the promise that He made.

God's rainbow was in the sky and a reminder that He always keeps His promises. The next time you see a rainbow, remember the promise God made to Noah, and remember that just as God has kept that promise, He keeps all of His promises to you, too.

FUN ACTIVITY:
RAINBOW ARCH HUNT:

The teacher hides the four 'Rainbow cards' prior to class .

DOWNLOAD Rainbow cards

The children can each go to hunt for one rainbow arch and bring it back to the classroom and tape together to form a rainbow. Glue them onto a card and write 'GOD IS FAITHFUL IN KEEPING HIS PROMISES' at the top of the poster.

MEMORY BIBLE VERSE:

11 I make this agreement with you: I will never again destroy all living things by floodwaters. A flood will never again destroy the earth."
Genesis 9:11

DISCUSSION:

•  Have you ever lived though a really bad flood?

•  Do you want to share your experience?

•  Let's draw a picture of a flood.

ENCOUNTERING GOD:

PRAYER:

Father, help us to follow your teaching and do what your Word tells us to do. We know that we will sometimes fail, so we ask you to forgive us and set us on the right path. Father, sometimes it seems that the job is too big for us. Help us to remember that when we put trust in you, like Noah did then anything is possible. Help us like Noah to hear from you and obey, we're thankful that You keep Your promises. Help us to keep our promises, too.  In Yeshua' name we pray. Amen.

TAKE HOME BIBLE VERSE:

Print the Take Home Bible Verse one for each child. Make sure the children store them safely in the folder and bring them back the next day.
