Brother Graham's trip to BARBADOS - The East Coast

Scotland District,

Traveling from North Point through the Scotland District, we enjoyed panoramic views of the east coast.

Years ago the Barbados landscape was dotted with windmills, now most are derelict however Morgan Lewis is one of the few complete windmills in the Caribbean. Originally built in 1776, the mill has been lovingly restored by the Barbados National Trust

The East Coast is renown for its rugged 'chalky mount' terrain and rough seas.

The drive towards the east coast was through dynamic and rugged coastal scenery, historic sugar plantation factories now redundant and lush hillside village with chattle houses clinging to the cliff sides.

The East Coast is renown for its rugged 'chalky mount' terrain, miles of untouched, windswept coastline and rough seas. Swimming here can be dangerous and is not recommended.

The East Coast is renown for its surfing It is however a surfers paradise and home to the Soup Bowl' which hosts many international surfing events. We enjoyed watching the surfers from our lunch stop at the Round House in Bathsheba. One of the oldest hotels on the east coast.

Brother Graham is seen overlooking the old Steam Railway line that was opened in 1881 and use to run along the east coast from Bellplaine to Bridgetown, transporting people and goods to the capital. Unfortunately it stopped running in 1937 but the old tracks can still be seen and it remains a popular hike for locals and visitors alike.

Therefore in the east give glory to the LORD; exalt the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea.

The trip continued into the Parish of St John with a stop at the ancient St John's Anglican Parish church.
