UCT as a Disaster
Management NGO has identified the need for a Caribbean Disaster Relief
Ship and has identified such a vessel.
We have been in negotiation with the owners over the last month and
are seeking funding to purchase this 263’ craft.
She has the potential to carry 120 passengers and a crew of 40.
UCT is looking to partner with Operation Mobilization to recruit
the staff for this Caribbean Disaster Relief Ship.
She has the potential to travel 7000 miles without refueling and
thus in a disaster will be able to offer emergency supplies of diesel
to the affected island.
She has the ability to generate 5000 galleons of reverse osmosis
water per day and during a natural disaster this would save many
lives.
Outside of the hurricane season she could carry passengers throughout
the Caribbean from Guyana in the south to Jamaica in the north.
Providing subsidized transportation for youth ministries focused
on sports, music, dance, drama or artisans visiting the Mission
Holiday Village to help with the project.
She has conferencing facilities of 120 people and that is another
niche market to be tapped.
She is perfect to compliment the School Twinning Programme and
could be used for students traveling for Student Exchange between
the islands.
The cost of the vessel is US $500,000 and US $300,000 for refurbishment.
This is an excellent investment for our region.
