Haiti Fruit Pulp Factory
UCT’s corporate arm United Caribbean Services Inc has held
major talk with a Barbadian company known for its production of
fruit products including Mauby Syrup and is in negotiation to establish
a Natural Juice product designed exclusively for UCT with a percentage
being donated back to the children of Haiti.
UCT has already began to look at markets and to link with key distributors
in various islands to market such juices and additional products
especially through the schools and UWI. A percentage of the natural
juice will be donated back to the children of Haiti.
This commercial venture linking Barbados and Haiti in the first
instance will provide employment for Haitians.
United Caribbean Services Inc will market and sell
juices to areas of high Afro Caribbean inhabitants. The major emphasis
on all marketing done on this product will be the percentage of
the juice being donated back to the Help Haiti Project.
Grafting fruit and avocado trees makes it possible to standardize
fruit production and to expand the harvest periods, thereby creating
large scale commercial production.
The mango industry in Haiti is one of the most dynamic sectors of
economy, with exports growing every year. Mangos are produced in
different regions of the island, thanks to its diversity of microclimates.
Haiti is able to produce mangos almost all year round. Over 140
varieties of mangos have been identified, but the Madame Francis
is the only one currently being exported fresh.
The volume of exports has continued to increase since the 1970's,
but even with increased exports it is estimated that at the present
Haiti is only exporting 20% of its potential output. Mangos are
well appreciated throughout the island, so there is also a high
demand on the local market.
