Conference on Honduras
Today, 50% of Honduras' population is 15 years of
age and younger.
The average woman in Honduras gives birth to her first
child when she is 15 years old.
80% of all births in Honduras registered in 2006 did
not name a father.
"How does one hold a society together when the
very foundation of the society, the family, is falling apart and in
many ways in Honduras has ceased to exist?"
In Honduras, there is a high incidence of abuse being
suffered by the children. One fourth of the children arriving at the
nutrition center have suffered sexual abuse these children are all
under 5 years of age.
The majority of the abuse of children is at the hands
of their "step" fathers and family members. This is the
consequence of the serial marriages in Honduras...
One woman having children by a succession of men, none of whom take
responsibility for their own children and none of whom respect the
children she had by other men.
