Kim Smith
 |
Kim Smith was born in Barbados in 1962. She has
spent most of her life in Barbados other than 2 brief periods
where she lived in other countries. She attended the Art Institute
of Fort Lauderdale in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, during 1981
-1983. |
She has an Associate degree in Advertising Design. She also won
a competition for a truck design for Waterbed City in Florida, USA.
She also lived in Norwich, England, for 18 months. It was there
that she started to experiment with ceramics. For a number of years
after her return to Barbados, she worked in the local red clay produced
here on the island.
After several years, Kim decided to start to paint. Her style of
art had always been more graphic, but an interest in fine art and
oil painting soon developed. She currently paints with the Newcomers’
Art Group founded by Indrani Whittingham.
Currently, 50% of the proceeds from Kim’s art goes to help
children in need.
She sponsors two children from the Bush Negro community in Suriname.
She also sends clothing to these impoverished communities in Suriname.
Kim has travelled extensively – visiting other Caribbean
islands, UK, USA, Canada, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela. She enjoys
seeing new places, and experiencing other cultures.
