LETTERS OF ENCOURAGEMENT - The Lord is MIGHTY

Dear Friends,

The Lord on high is MIGHTY! The Holy Spirit led me to read Psalm 93, and what an encouragement it was!

"The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty;" (v. 1a NIV) I see Our Lord standing in His Temple. He is wearing a deep purple robe, trimmed with white, fluffy ermine. He is standing, looking very regal and authoratative. He is on a platform above the royal courtiers, and has everyone's full attention. His gold and jewelled sceptre is in His outstretched Hand.

"The Lord is robed in majesty and is armed in strength." (v. 1b NIV). Outside the Temple, I see soldiers lined up in neat formations. This Army is His military strength, and at His disposal.

"The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved." (v. 1c NIV). Our planet, Earth, spins on its own axis, and revolves around the sun. It spins and revolves at the same speed every day. Our planet is not bouncing around space in some haphazard way..... colliding into other planets or stars, or going away from the sun, so that we experience freezing temperatures or darkness. Our planet is on a set path, and stays firmly in place. God has declared it so.

"Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity". (v. 2 NIV). God was from before time began. He IS the Great I am. He just IS. His Reign has no beginning or end, like mortal kings. His Reign is Eternal.

"The seas have lifted up, O Lord, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. Mightier than the thunder of great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea - the Lord on high is mighty." (v.3-4 NIV). The visual picture here is of a raging sea. The sound of the waves is like "thunder" it is so loud. The waves are "pounding" the sea shore. We can imagine huge breakers fiercely hitting rocks, or aggressively slapping the sand. The sea is rough and stormy. The waves carry a lot of power, and can damage boats and buildings. The sea can take the lives of those who are weaker than its currents. No one enjoys being in the middle of a storm like this, especially when you are vulnerable, and powerless to help yourself.

Yet, the Psalmist declares that God is mightier than this raging sea! If we thought the storm was daunting, then God is formidable! We are not to fear the storm, as God is in Control, even when we cannot see His Hand in the natural.

What are the raging seas in our lives? What situations are overwhelming you? Is it a mountain of bills? Your failing health? Relational issues at home or at work? Is it the ecomomic recession in our times, or the threat of terrorism, or war in your country?
We are responsible to do all we can to help our situation. After that, God is in Control. We have to look to Our Mighty, Awesome God who has our best interest at heart. In every situation, He is working issues out in our own hearts. How do we know what He is sparing us from when He puts certain persons in power, and others not. Through good and evil, He works out His Purposes, which are much loftier than ours.

Our job is to keep on our knees, or face, in prayer, bringing our concerns before Him - not only on a personal basis, but also national and international issues of our times. There are so many situations in the world today that need our prayer, and God's Intervention.

"Your statues stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days, O Lord." (v. 5 NIV). Whatever God says, goes. His Ways do not change. Whatever He declares is sinful, is. It does not matter how many people think differently. God sets the standards for an upright life.

The bottom line is that God reigns supreme. Keep focussed on God, for He is indeed Mighty!
