The Anointing

“The Anointing”

This painting is taken from Matthew 3:13 – 17 when Jesus is baptized in the River Jordan by John the Baptist.

“After Jesus was baptized, he immediately came up from the water. Suddenly, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God coming down as a dove to him. Then a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love – my Son with whom I am pleased.”

The person in this painting is Jesus. The red sash represents His Blood.

A dove is hovering over him, representing the Holy Spirit. Jesus has no specific face, as we all are meant to be like Jesus, and anointed by the Holy Spirit. So this could represent each one of us as well. The water flowing from the doves in the side panels represent the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. The hands below receive the baptism… but is it received by faith in our hearts, and not in our physical hands. That is why both symbols of the heart and the hands are in place. The sun and its rays represents God’s Glory.

“Risen Saviour"

  “Risen Saviour"

Jesus is the Risen Saviour, and that is why in this painting He is not portrayed as nailed to the Cross. He is RISEN! The crown on the Cross represents His Kingship.

The cups in the top corners represents the Cup of Suffering from the Garden of Gethsemane, when Jesus asked the Father to take this “cup” from Him.

The Blood of Jesus flows out of the cup or chalice. Salvation is received by faith in our hearts, as portrayed by the symbols of the heart and the hands opened to receive. The sun and its rays represents God’s Glory.
