Caribbean Disaster Mitigation and Community Empowerment Initiative UNITED CARIBBEAN - Happy Christmas Grenada

The need to support and encourage the children of Carriacou this Christmas is vital for their ability to cope with the life changing challenges that hurricane Ivan has inflicted on these little people.

The United Caribbean team returned from London's WTM with arms full of toys gleaned from the very generous charity shops in London and Wimbledon; a very special thanks goes out to Oxfam, the Heart Foundation and Scope for their generous reductions.

Thanks to the generosity of many schools, churches and kind individuals the United Caribbean team arrived in Carriacou after a safe sea crossing compliments of BARNUFO
The first visit was to the Bogles Pre Primary School where the London soft toy were greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all the teachers that managed to get most of the pre primary students back to school to collect their gifts, seen here Miss Lendor at the Lesterre Pre Primary. A special thanks to Mr Bristol of Hillsborough Secondary for his assistance.

The lunch stop took place at the Sandy Island Cafe where to teachers and pupils of the Hillsborough Pre Primary were invited to join the team to collect their gifts.

Seen here the owner of the restaurant Jenson with his children enjoying a special father/daughter moment!

The afternoon visit to Mount Pleasant school was delightful as always and the principal of the school was on had to show the United Caribbean team the new community project that is under construction.

Despite Cindy Fletcher the teacher from Windward Pre Primary being off island we were still able to visit this lovely little school and distribute the last of the toys.

Unfortunately we were unable to visit the Harvey Vale School on this visit but toys were left for the Pre Primary children on their return to school.

The children of Barbados wish their brothers and sisters in Carriacou a very Happy Christmas and a bright, happy New Year.
