Joshua a shadow of Jesus
Joshua, as his name in Hebrew indicates, is a type of Christ. The name Joshua or Yeshua in Hebrew, means “salvation.” Joshua is in Hebrew what Jesus is in Greek.

1. Joshua’s Great Battle
Joshua was a mighty military leader and great servant to The Lord. As he led the Israelites into the Promised Land, he wages numerous military campaigns.
Joshua 10:1-5

From the earliest chapter of the Bible Jerusalem was a Holy City of The Lord.
Genesis 14:18

Hebrews 7: 1-2
This Melchizedek was king of Salem (Jerusalem )and priest of God Most High. The name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.”

Another shadow - Melchizedek is presented as a type of Christ. This theme is repeated in the book of Hebrews, where both Melchizedek and Christ are considered kings of righteousness and peace.

By citing Melchizedek and his unique priesthood as a type, the writer shows that Christ’s new priesthood is superior to the old Levitical order and the priesthood of Aaron
(Hebrews 7:1–10).

A. Adoni-zedec King of Jerusalem
Adoni-zedec in Hebrew also means “King of Righteousness”. But he was far from righteous. He was an Amorite-Canaanite King at a time when that culture was deeply into the worship of the gods Baal and Ashtoreth.

As the end-times Antichrist, will also enter into power “peaceably” (Daniel 11) and present himself as a substitute for true Lord of Righteousness, Jesus Christ.

Revelation 6: 2

Revelation 19:11

Jesus warned that deception will be rife in the end time.
Luke 21:8
He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. “

King Adonizedec was the King of Jerusalem

In the end-times, the Antichrist will also operate out of the Holy City.

The Apostle Paul prophesied that the Antichrist or “son of perdition” will sit in the temple of God, proclaiming that he is God and exalting himself over The Lord.
1 Thessalonians 2:2

The temple of God at that time was and can only be in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah. (The Temple mount). There is no temple there today (as it was destroyed in 70 AD by the Roman Empire) but this verse has led many to believe a future temple will be built.

For the first time in hundreds of years, there are serious preparations underway to build the Third Temple prophesied in Scripture.

A Plan of Destruction
Just as Joshua defeated the pagan usurper to reclaim the Holy City for the Lord, so too will Jesus Christ return to Earth and defeat the false Messiah Antichrist and reclaim the entire world for God.

Adonizedec’s hostility towards God’s people is obvious.
So too will the Antichrist seek to persecute and kill the saints of God in the end-times.

Revelation 13:7

The pagan King Adonizedec formed a confederation with four kings to go wage war against the Israelites by attacking one of their allies.

In the end times, the Bible informs that the Antichrist will also form a confederation with other Kings:

Revelation 17:12a

B. Hoham King of Hebron.
HEBRON means, 'league,' 'association' ‘alliance’

Psalms 83: 5
5 With one mind they plot together;
they form an alliance against you—

C. Piram King of Jarmuth
PIRAM means like a wild ass.

Gen 16: 12a
12 He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him.”

D. Japhia King of Lachish
The meaning of Japhia is bright; brilliant; gleaming; glowing; splendid.

Isa 14:12
How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, (Satan) son of the dawn!

This should be understood to be a shadow of the "anti-christ" or beast. He claims to be Messiah and the Muslims will accept him as their Mahdi . He will shine for his moment under the sun, but will to be brought low ultimately.

Contrast the real Bright Morning Star:

Rev 22:16

King of Lachish is first mentioned in the Bible at the time of the Divinely ordained invasion of the land of Canaan by the Israelites, led by Joshua 1220-1200 BC. The name Lachish means - who walks or exists of himself.

Proud, arrogant and independent, contrasting with Jesus who could do nothing by himself unless He saw His Heavenly Father doing it.
John 5: 19

E. Debir King of Eglon
Debir means Sanctuary and this might also symbolize a type and a shadow because in the end time the Antichrist will set up the abomination of desolation in the Sanctuary.

Abomination of Desolation
The abomination of desolation is mentioned in the book of Daniel:

Daniel 9:27a
Jesus says in Matthew 24 that the abomination will be "standing in the holy place." The term "holy place" is found in only one other place in the New Testament (Acts 21:28) and refers to the Temple in Jerusalem.

Eglon (Calf like) Calves were commonly made use of in sacrifices, and are therefore frequently mentioned in Scripture. The "fatted calf" was regarded as the choicest of animal food.

Jeremiah 34:18
When they cut the calf in twain, and passed between the parts thereof - This was the ancient and most solemn way of making a covenant.

Eglon however was only Calf like another implication of deception.

Joshua was indeed a type of Jesus Christ and his war to lead God’s nation into the Promised Land was a shadow of Jesus Christ’s future defeat of the Antichrist and reclaiming the Earth for the saints of The Lord.

These remarkable patterns that The Lord has put in the Bible help inform us when we are trying to interpret prophetic Scripture.

Any future event should have a prior type in Scripture and we should study the Word diligently to find out to confirm what we may think to be true.

And all of this will help us to keep our eyes open to world events as the Word of God becomes more and more of a reality.

Proverbs 25:2
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.
