Lord,
as I lie here,
I realise that
You have given me
this moment
in time.

The quietness of the night.
The sounds of crickets and
whistling frogs.
The strong odour of the rain flies.
The cool breeze from
the whirring, electric fan.
The cascade of light
on my note pad
from a nearby lamp.
A puppy lies curled up
next to me.
My parents sleep in another room.

It is just
a quiet moment
in my life.
I know
I am breathing…
I am alive…
and Your Presence
is here.
Invisible,
yet always present.

Shame…
I felt such
a terrible sense
of shame.

So small.
Miniscule.
I shrunk
until I was as low
as the ground.

The words came
out of my mouth.
Unintentionally hurtful.

The pain. The hurt.
Our pain. Our hurt.

More words came
to ease the pain.
A touch, a hug.

Begging forgiveness.
Asking to be forgiven.
All of a sudden
only two human beings
existed in the World.
Everything else meant nothing.

Our friendship…
hanging together
by threads of pain
and past memories.

I beg you
to forgive me…

You do.

And I realise
just how much
you really mean to me.
How important
you are in my life
everyday.

It makes me aware
of how much
I thought I appreciated
You -
and yet,
I still took
you
for granted.

I learnt
another lesson
today –
about how
we half-love
people.
