It is projected to be years before Grenada’s economy gets back on its feet and as a result the level of poverty has risen dramatically and it is expected that the homeless will have no way of generating an income to buy supplies and rebuild their homes. The situation in Guyana is one of grave concern.

UCT the distribution arm of 'Baby Survival Kits' is seeking active fundraising. These kits are intended to reach many desperate mothers quickly, the supplies are in small quantities that would only provide approximately one weeks worth of consumables such as formula and diapers, among the longer-term hardware such as linens and feeding bottles etc. Ideally, once the initial need has been met, ‘BSK’ would like to deliver “follow up kits” to replenish just the consumable supplies on a twice monthly basis.

It is the intention of UCT to promote and encourage youth sports as a way of fund raising and character building. Volleyball is a sporting option and volleyball holidays will become a part of our school twinning program and holiday fund raising exercise.

Caribbean Volleyball Championships

Barbados Jason Griffith (right) elevates for a powerfull kill against Guadeloupe. Winning a set against the Barbados teams at the Caribbean Volleyball Championships is proving as difficult as getting a no-confidence motion passed against the Government.

The Barbadian lasses survived a minor scare before romping to their third straight-sets victory at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium on Tuesday night with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-13 triumph over Jamaica.

It was also a cake-walk for the men as they streamrolled minnows Guadeloupe 25-9, 25-18, 25-20 in a game which coach Ludger Niles gave all 12 of his players some court time. Read more

“Sharon speaking” the group of female flag-waving fans shouted, to spontaneous laughter by the partisan Barbados crowd in response to another thunderous kill by local volleyball ace Sharon Bovell, and copying the theme of one of Barbados’ most popular cell phone commercials. Read more

Barbadian Anicia Wood (right) and Anastasia Sands of the Bahamas at the Caribbean Volleyball Championships 2004Barbadian Anicia Wood (right) and Anastasia Sands of the Bahamas go high to block each other in their clash Wednesday.

Barbados’ national volleyball teams keep making this a habit.

The women have won their first four games, and even though they were given a fight by the Bahamas on Wednesday night, came through 3-1 winners.

The men have been even more dominant, not losing a set in their three wins as they seek an unprecedented ninth regional title, which should be earned on Sunday.

Bajans Roll Over St Lucia -

Saturday 03, July-2004
Acid, brutal, cruel, dismissive!
One would have to go down the entire alphabet of adjectives to adequately describe how eight-times Caribbean Kings Barbados stormed into the semifinals of the 10th Caribbean volleyball championships with a mauling of OECS champions, St Lucia at Garfield Sobers Sports Complex on Thursday night.

The Bajans took just one hour to destroy St Lucia, 25-15, 25-13, 25-11, to book a predictable direct trip to today’s semifinals with the game looking like a mismatch between a primary school cricket champion and Australia.

In spite of playing with their customary passion and spirit, the St Lucians were only competitive for the first five minutes of each set. < Read more >
