Photo Voltaic Solar Energy (PV solar) involves generating energy from the light of the sun, while solar thermal energy derives it's energy from the sun's heat for various purposes like heating water, drying agricultural goods etc. With PV solar the installation can be entirely off-grid and battery powered. Alternatively, the system may be grid-tied if required, allowing access to the national electricity grid.
