Proverbs 9: 1 - 6
Wisdom has built her house,
She has hewn out her seven pillars;
2 She has slaughtered her meat,
She has mixed her wine,
She has also furnished her table.
3 She has sent out her maidens,
She cries out from the highest places of the city,
4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
5 “Come, eat of my bread
And drink of the wine I have mixed.
6 Forsake foolishness and live,
And go in the way of understanding.

Proverbs 9: 13 -18
13 A foolish woman is clamorous;
She is simple, and knows nothing.
14 For she sits at the door of her house,
On a seat by the highest places of the city,
15 To call to those who pass by,
Who go straight on their way:
16 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here”;
And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
17 “Stolen water is sweet,
And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
18 But he does not know that the dead are there,
That her guests are in the depths of hell.

The choice between these two women in Proverbs 9

Solomon, the wisest man that ever lived in the Old Testament, had a choice to make

Woman #1 Wisdom

Proverbs 8: 12
12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
And find out knowledge and discretion.

Proverbs 8: 30
30 Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;
Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;
And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him,

Wisdom says, “I was daily His delight” God looked forward to Wisdom every day as His delight.

To some people coffee is their daily delight, or when you come home from work and you want to sit in that special chair, with a good book, or maybe your delight is a particular person that you delight in being with.

If Wisdom is a person, who was that person?

Proverbs 8: 31
31 Rejoicing in His inhabited world,
And my delight was with the sons of men.

Wisdom now has emotions, delighting with the sons of men.
God delights in Wisdom, by Wisdom delights with humans on earth.
In various places throughout the Bible there are hints as to who this person is.

The Bible has imbedded principles of life and how things work, and we decode them by revelation of the Holy Spirit.

Solomon speaks of these things a women, but they are much more than that and it is our job to search these truths out.

1 Corinthians 1: 30a
30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God

Jesus did not receive wisdom he became wisdom for us from God, He (Jesus) embodied wisdom

John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Here John is talking about something that is inanimate, we would say the Bible is the Word. But here John is referring to the Word as a person. In the beginning was the Word, and in the beginning was Wisdom.

Who was John speaking about here when he talks about the Word? JESUS

John 1:2 - 3
2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

Remember Wisdom said in Proverbs 8: 30a “Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;”

The Word is Wisdom, it is the Lord Jesus Christ, He was there at the beginning creating everything, Jesus was God’s daily delight. God loved us so much He sent us His daily delight.

That’s how much Jesus loved us, that when Adam and Eve sinned, He volunteered to come to become a human being. Not just for 33 years but forever.
After Jesus was raised from the dead, He got a resurrected body,that is why He went to the Father and returned and said to his disciples handle me, see I have a body.
Jesus is in Heaven now sat at the right hand of the Father, fully God but fully man.
We are His daily delight, imagine loving your dog so much that you want to become a dog!

The creator, loved the created so much that He wanted to become one of us forever. Yes He is God but he is still man.

John 14: 1 - 3
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

Why? Because we are His delight.

In Proverbs, Solomon saw the person of Wisdom and he saw the choice we have to make between Jesus or Satan’s world system.

• First is the distinction between the Developer and the Marketer.

In Proverbs 9: 1a we learn Wisdom has built her house, building a house takes a lot of effort. Jesus put in the effort and created not only this world but He went to create the many mansions in Heaven for us.

She has hewn out her seven pillars; it is solid and secure.

Contract with the foolish woman in verse 13:
A foolish woman is clamorous;
She is simple, and knows nothing. She is loud, drawing attention to herself, but she is simple and knows nothing.

Compared to Jesus who created the entire world.

Satan is loud, he perverts what Jesus created, he is a sales person, he is a marketer, he puts a sexy appeal on what he doesn’t even own to sell it.

The Developer verses the Marketeer. The Creator, the Developer Jesus put in all the effort and paid the price but Satan the loud mouth salesman is the master Marketeer.

• Second Jesus has much to offer, Satan has nothing to offer.

In Proverbs 9: 2 we learnt she (Wisdom/Jesus) has slaughtered her meat, not nipped down to the supermarket, She has mixed her wine, she has also furnished her table.
Jesus is our Shepherd (Click) that prepares a table for us before our enemies.

Jesus went to great lengths. What did Jesus do to prepare this table?
He did everything, He left heaven, came to earth, lived a perfect life, died for us and is now praying for us.

Compare this with the foolish woman in verse 14: For she sits at the door of her house, The devil is trying to sell you an empty box.

• Thirdly the difference between Jesus working to warn everybody and the enemy trying to décor people that are trying to live right.

Verse 3: She (Wisdom/Jesus) has sent out her maidens, She cries out from the highest places of the city,

Jesus is calling out from the Sprit realm, He is calling out, get alone and be quiet. Jesus sent out his maidens to go tell the world the good news.

The contrast in verse 14: For she sits at the door of her house, On a seat by the highest places of the city,

She is still sitting verse 15 To call to those who pass by, Who go straight on their way:
Those trying to live right, she is going to detour you.

• Fourthly the difference between the owner and the parrot. The enemy tries to act like God.

Verse 4: 4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,

Compared to verse 16: “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here”;
And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,

Word for word, the enemy tries to act like or imitate God.

God has prepared a great plan for you, (Click) BUT what Satan does he gives you an imitation. It looks like a great plan but Jesus is offering the real deal.

• Fifthly the difference between an expensive cuisine compared to stolen fast food.

In verse 5 “Come, eat of my bread And drink of the wine I have mixed.

The last supper, a covenant meal.

2 Timothy 2: 5 – 6
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,

The contrast verse 17a: “Stolen water is sweet.”

No bread and wine, with the foolish woman you get nothing, just compromise, stolen water - is fun, it’s sweet.

Sin is trying to get what God wants you to have the wrong way at the wrong time.

“And bread eaten in secret is pleasant”
Shhh don’t tell anybody, no one will know. That is the lie of Satan.

The sixth comparison

Verse 6 Forsake foolishness and live, And go in the way of understanding.

Jesus is saying “I am offering you life, not only life here on earth but eternal life.”

Contrast in verse 18: But he does not know that the dead are there,
That her guests are in the depths of hell.

Compromise results in death.

Matthew 7: 13- 14
13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

If you follow the crowd and compromise then you will find yourself in the depths of hell.

Here are the two choices, between the Lord Jesus and Satan. If you are wise and choose Jesus, you are wise for yourself, but if you scoff, and choose Satan, you will bear it alone.

Proverbs 9:12
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”

Matthew 16: 26
26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Back up and think of eternity and put it in perspective, don’t sell eternity for a few moments of pleasure opening what ends up being an empty box.
