Amazing
Grace -Disaster Relief Vessel
 |
United Caribbean Trust (UCT)
was birthed in Grenada in the devastation left in the wake
of hurrincane
Ivan in September 2004.
|
 |
During that time, while jumping
Barbados fishing boats armed with relief supplies, we identified
the need for a Caribbean Disaster Relief Ship and recently
we have found such a vessel. |
We have been in negotiation
with the owners and the founder of UCT will be travelling
to Trinidad to view the vessel.
We are seeking Caribbean Christian business
people to help purchase this 263’ craft for the region.
|
|
She has the potential to carry 120 passengers and
a crew of 40. UCT is looking to partner with Operation Mobilization
to recruit the staff for this Caribbean Disaster Relief Ship.
She is capable of travelling 7000 miles without
refuelling and thus in a disaster will be able to offer emergency
supplies of diesel to the affected island.
She has the ability to generate 5000 galleons of
reverse osmosis water per day and during a natural disaster this
would save many lives. The water storage tanks have a capacity of
150 tons (53,000 U.S. gallons).
The Amazing Grace is ideal as a Caribbean Disaster
Relief Ship, being able to supply disaster relief but also Christian
relief workers to cater to the Spiritual needs of the people.
It is an excellent place to teach school children
a Caribbean Disaster
Mitigation Programme in a relaxed fun environment.
The Community in which we live could be exposed
to hazards which could make us face and have to learn to cope, with
emergency situations.
At such times, we have to be prepared to respond to the larger needs
of the community and to be organized and attend to the information
and education needs of all members of the community. This has to
be done independently from the assistance received from outside
the community itself so as to self-empower resident’s recovery
and encourage community wellness.
