Stage A: Set Up a Production Site
You will need a work space to make BioSand Filters. The place where you make filters and prepare the sand and gravel is called the Production Site. How much space you need depends on how many filters you will make. You could also have an office at the same location.
You will need...
o Covered areas to work in the shade
o Areas to mix concrete, store filters, and paint filters
o An area to sieve and wash sand
o Access to water (tap or pump)
o Drains for wastewater
o Road access
o Toilets and hand washing facilities
o Somewhere to lock up valuable tools and supplies, such as a storage room or shed
o Electricity (optional) - if you need lights or if you will be using power tools or electric vibrators. This is a decision you can make if you are making a lot of filters for a big project.
