1. WELCOME GAME: (10 minutes) - WATER WALKING:

Let children take off their shoes and socks and take turns placing their feet in a shallow pan of water and then the first child will walk on the floor or on the sidewalk and make watery foot prints. Then the next child will put their feet in the water and try to walk on the exact same footprints as the first child. Each child will follow after and see if they can walk on the same prints. If they happen to make a new print, then the children following can choose which foot prints they want to follow. Tell children that today we'll be talking about walking on the water!

2. TEAM GAMES: (10 minutes) - WATER RELAY:

Divide the children into two equal teams. The teams will take turns running to the far side of the room with an empty cup collecting a cup of water and running to the far side of the room to empty it into the empty bucket, handing the cup to the next runner who repeats the exercise until the bucket is full of water. and putting on a swim ring and run back to their team continue to play until all the players have run.

a. Review: Weekly Bible Readings

This week while you were at home you will have read the Weekly Bible Readings teaching about the work of Jesus. We asked you to write in your own words the work Jesus was doing. Lets review them now as part of this Lessons teachings.

JESUS RAISES THE DEAD:

1 •  Mark 5:21-24; 35-43

21  Jesus went in the boat back to the other side of the lake. There, a large crowd gathered around him.  22  A ruler from the synagogue, named Jairus, came to that place. Jairus saw Jesus and bowed before him.

23  The ruler begged Jesus again and again. He said, "My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her. Then she will be healed and will live."  24  So Jesus went with the ruler, and many people followed Jesus.

35  Jesus was still speaking when some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. The men said, "Your daughter is dead. There is now no need to bother the teacher."

36  But Jesus paid no attention to what the men said. He said to the synagogue ruler,  " Don't be afraid; just believe."

38  They came to the house of the synagogue ruler, and Jesus found many people there crying loudly. There was much confusion.  39  Jesus entered the house and said to the people, " Why are you crying and making so much noise? This child is not dead. She is only asleep ."  40  But they only laughed at Jesus. He told all the people to leave. Then he went into the room where the child was. He took the child's father and mother and his three followers into the room with him.  41  Then he took hold of the girl's hand and said to her " Little girl, I tell you to stand up!" 42  The girl stood right up and began walking. (She was 12 years old.) The father and mother and the followers were amazed.  43  Jesus gave the father and mother strict orders not to tell people about this. Then he told them to give the girl some food.

JESUS CASTS OUT DEMONS:

2 •  Mark 1:23-27

23 Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, 24 saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are-the Holy One of God!"

25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying,  "Be quiet, and come out of him!"  26 And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. 27 Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying,  " What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.

JESUS HEALS THE BLIND:

3 •  John 9:1-5

Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"

3 Jesus answered,  " Neither this man nor his parents sinned,   but that the works of God should be revealed in him.  4  must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is   day; the night is coming when no one can work.  5  As long as I am in the world,   I am the light of the world."

John 9:6

6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.

JESUS HEALS FEVER:

4 •  Mark 1:29-34

29 Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.  30  But Simon's wife's mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once.  31  So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.

32  At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed.  33  And the whole city was gathered together at the door.  34  Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him

JESUS FEEDS 5000

5 •  Mark 6:30-44

30 Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught. 31 And He said to them,  " Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while."   For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. 32 So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.

33 But the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him. 34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. 35 When the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him and said, "This is a deserted place, and already the hour is late.

36 Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread; for they have nothing to eat."

37 But He answered and said to them,  " You give them something to eat."

And they said to Him, " Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?"

38 But He said to them,  " How many loaves do you have? Go and see."

And when they found out they said, " Five, and two fish."

39 Then He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties. 41 And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all.

42 So they all ate and were filled. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish. 44 Now those who had eaten the loaves were about five thousand men.

JESUS WALKS ON WATER:

6 •  Matthew 14:22-33

Optional: Download 'Jesus walking on water' review video

22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.

25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.

26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out for fear.

But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying...

"Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." (Matthew 14:27b)

28 And Peter answered Him and said, " Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water."

29 So He said,  " Come."  And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, " Lord, save me!"

31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him,  " O you of   little faith, why did you doubt?"   32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.

33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God."

JESUS HEALS THE DEAF:

7 •  Mark 7: 31-36

31 Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He came through the midst of the region of Decapolis to the Sea of Galilee. 32 Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. 33 And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. 34 Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him,  " Ephphatha, "  that is,  " Be opened."

35 Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly. 36 Then He commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed it.

37 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."

6. APPLICATION / ENCOUNTERING GOD:

Remember when Jesus walked on water as long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he was walking on the water, but when he took his eyes off of Jesus, he began to sink. As we go through life, there will be some storms. We will encounter some pretty rough water. As long as we keep our eyes upon Jesus and put our trust in him, we will be okay. But when we take our eyes off of Jesus and put our confidence in our own ability, we will surely sink!

Encourage the children to come to the alter. You can establish your own alter by placing a chair in the corner, cover it with a gold cloth, have the Jesus crown on the chair and surround it with the red cloth, creating the illusion of the blood of Jesus.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Dear Jesus, when the storms of life come against us, help us to keep our eyes on you and to put our trust in you. We now know that when we take our eyes off of Jesus and put our confidence in our own ability, we will surely sink! Keep us focused on You Lord Jesus, you who stilled the storm and walked on water. You are the miracle worker, You are our Living water. We put our trust in You. Amen.

Weekly Bible Readings - LESSON #6

Print 'Weekly Bible Verse Readings', one for each youth to take home.

During the week, read the Bible verses below and write a short summary of more of Jesus' miracles

1 •  Luke 5:1-8

So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret,  and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing  their  nets.  Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.

When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon,  "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch."

But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net."   And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.  So they signaled to  their  partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.  When Simon Peter saw  it,  he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying,  "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!"

(How did this miracle impact Peter's life? How do these miracles change your thoughts about Jesus?)

.............................

2 •  John 5:1-9

After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.  Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep  Gate  a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.  In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water.  For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.  Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years.  When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been  in that condition  a long time, He said to him,  "Do you want to be made well?"

The sick man answered Him, " Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me."

Jesus said to him,  " Rise, take up your bed and walk."   And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.

(Did Jesus have to help him into the pool? Instead what did Jesus command him to do?)

.............................

3 •  John 21: 4-11

But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.  Then Jesus said to them,  " Children, have you any food?"

They answered Him, "No."

And He said to them,  " Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some."  So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.

Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on  his  outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea.  But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish.  Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread.  10  Jesus said to them,  " Bring some of the fish which you have just caught."

11  Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken.

(Which disciple was the first to respond to this miracle?

.............................

4 •  Luke 17:11-17

11  Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.  12  Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off.  13  And they lifted up  their  voices and said , "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!"

14  So when He saw  them,  He said to them,  " Go, show yourselves to the priests."  And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.

15  And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God,  16  and fell down on  his  face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.

17  So Jesus answered and said,  " Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?   18  Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?"   19  And He said to him,  "Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well."

(Can you remember another Samaritan that met with Jesus? Can anyone recall the Good Samaritan story?)

.............................

5 •  Matthew 17: 24-27

24  When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the  temple  tax came to Peter and said , "Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?"

25  He said, "Yes."

And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying,  " What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from   strangers?"

26  Peter said to Him, "From strangers."

Jesus said to him,  "Then the sons are free.   27  Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a   piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you."

(Where did Jesus tell Peter to go and find money?)

.............................

6 •  John 11: 32-44

32 Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, " Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died."

33 Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled. 34 And He said,  " Where have you laid him?"

They said to Him, " Lord, come and see."

35 Jesus wept. 36 Then the Jews said, " See how He loved him!"

37 And some of them said, " Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?"

38 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said,  " Take away the stone."

Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, " Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days."

40 Jesus said to her,  " Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would   see the glory of God?"  41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.  42  And I know that You always hear Me, but   because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me."  43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice,  " Lazarus, come forth!"   44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them "Loose him, and let him go."

(What did Jesus tell them they would see if they believed?)

.............................

7 •  Luke 13: 10-13

10  Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.  11  And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way  [ raise  herself  up.  12  But when Jesus saw her, He called  her  to  Him  and said to her,  " Woman, you are loosed from your   infirmity."   13  And He laid  His  hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

(What was the response of the woman that was healed?)
