Stonecroft Haiti Child Sponsorship Program - JACMEL

Sixty-six percent of Haitians live on less than $1 dollar a day and 47 percent are undernourished, according to the U.N. World Food Program.

The country's unemployment rate is over 60 percent.

Throughout the world there are areas where infant and child health is poor. In Haiti the infant mortality rate was 84 per 1,000 live births in 2005. A quarter of all registered deaths occurred among infants who were younger than one year old; half of all deaths occurred among children under five.

The dramatic rise in food costs, especially key staples such as rice, has been brought on by droughts in key agricultural countries, more demand in wealthier Asia, and biofuels production. In Haiti children are reverting to eating mud cakes

Within this contex United Caribbean Trust is pleased to be working in association with Stonecroft Ministries partnering with Restoration Ministries Haiti (RMH) on the Haiti Child Sponsorship Programme introduced throught the Make Jesus Smile shoebox project.

These boxes are used to introduce the Child Sponsorship Program. As the child receives the box and is photographed, information is obtained and a web page is created for that child and the potential is establised to be sponsored and have a life changing experience.

During the June 2007 mission trip Restoration Ministries Haiti took part in outdoor crusades and the Gospel was taken to the streets.

The Holy Spirit moved as the praises went up and numerous young people gave their lives to Jesus.

A new program has been established to help follow up these Children for Christ.
